Blade Vs Mallet Putter: Which Is Better For Your Putting Stroke?

Meta Description: Blade vs Mallet: Which putter wins? Discover the best putters for alignment and performance without the $500 price tag. Shop Lombardi Golf's precision-milled collection today.

Man, putting is the ultimate equalizer, isn't it? You can bomb a 300-yard drive right down the pipe, stick your wedge to six feet, and then... clank. A three-putt. Haha, we've all been there! It’s the most frustrating part of the game, but it’s also where you can make the biggest gains on your scorecard. And in 2026, golfers are paying more attention than ever to finding the right flatstick for their stroke.

When i started Lombardi Golf, the mission was simple: build gear that performs like the $500 sticks the pros use, but keep it at a price point that actually makes sense for everyday golfers. We’re talkin’ "built above the rest, but cost less." But even with the best gear in your bag, you have to have the right tool for your specific stroke.

The big question i get asked all the time is: "Should i be rocking a blade or a mallet?"

It’s not just about what looks cool (though let’s be honest, our 1985 blade in red looks incredible). It’s about physics, baby! Let’s break down the differences so you can stop leaving those birdies on the lip and start draining more putts. ⭐️

The Classic Blade: Precision and Feel for the Artful Stroke

If you grew up watching the legends, you probably picture a blade putter when you close your eyes. They’re sleek, they’re traditional, and they offer a level of "feel" that’s hard to beat.

Is a Blade Right for You?

Most blade putters are designed with what we call "toe hang." If you balance the shaft on your finger, the toe of the putter will point down toward the ground. This design is built for golfers with an arc putting stroke.

If your putter travels slightly inside on the way back, returns square at impact, and then finishes slightly inside again, congrats, you have an arc! You need a blade because that toe hang helps the face open and close naturally through that arc.

The Lombardi Blade Lineup

We’ve spent a lot of time perfecting our blades. Take our PC-308 Gold Edition. It’s got a 385g head weight, which is beefier than your average blade. Why? Because we know a lot of guys struggle with leaving putts short. That extra weight helps you get the ball to the hole without having to swing out of your shoes.

Then there’s the TC-PL22. This one is a game-changer for my friends with "lead-hands." If you tend to get a little handsy and blow putts ten feet past the cup, the face on the TC-PL22 is engineered to take a little speed off at impact. It’s all about control, man! And if you've ever wondered about milled putters vs cast, this is where craftsmanship really shows up. A precision-milled face gives you a more consistent feel and response, which matters big time when you're trying to control speed on slick greens.

The Modern Mallet: Stability and Forgiveness for the Straight Shooter

Now, let’s talk about the big boys. Mallets have exploded in popularity over the last decade, and for good reason. They are the SUVs of the putting green, stable, forgiving, and packed with tech.

Why Choose a Mallet?

The secret sauce of a mallet is MOI (Moment of Inertia). Because the head is larger, we can move weight to the perimeter. This means if you don't hit the ball exactly in the center of the face (hey, it happens!), the putter won't twist as much. The ball still goes relatively straight and keeps its speed.

Mallets are typically "face-balanced," meaning they want to stay square to the target line. This is perfect for the Straight-Back-Straight-Through (SBST) stroke. If you try to keep your putter on a railroad track, a mallet like our Corona TPS is your best friend.

The Lombardi Mallet Lineup

Our Corona TPS Mallet is the pinnacle of what we do. It’s part of our Tour Pro Series and features zero torque technology. Man, this thing stays square through the entire stroke without you even trying. Plus, the crosshair alignment on top makes aiming a breeze. If you're searching for the best mallet putters for alignment, this is exactly the kind of setup golfers love because it makes lining up feel simple and repeatable.

If you want something that stands out, our Blue 79 Mallet gives you that premium look with the stability you need to stop those three-putts for good.

How to Test Your Stroke at Home

You don’t need a fancy $10,000 launch monitor to figure this out. Grab two yardsticks (or even just two clubs) and lay them down on the carpet about 4 inches apart.

Try to make your normal putting stroke between the sticks.

  • If you find yourself bumping the sticks on the way back or through, you probably have an arc. Go Blade.
  • If you can glide through effortlessly while keeping the face square to the sticks, you’re a straight-shooter. Go Mallet.

Built Above the Rest, But Cost Less

Look, we know you have choices. You can go to a big-box store and drop $450 on a putter that was mass-produced in a factory that doesn't care about your game. Or, you can join the Lombardi family.

We continuously test our putters with our production team to ensure every "milling" and every "alignment screw" is exactly where it needs to be. Whether it's the premium wooden-background feel of the TC-PL22 or the high-performance roll of the 1985, we give you pro-level gear for a fraction of the cost.

Affordable Custom Putters

This is a huge part of who we are. We believe golfers should be able to get premium looks, real performance, and options that fit their stroke without getting smoked on price. Our lineup of affordable custom putters gives you legit choices in finish, head shape, and feel, so you can find something that looks good, rolls true, and actually fits your game.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, putting is about confidence. If you look down at a Gold PC-308 and think, "I'm going to drain this," you probably will.

Haha, it sounds simple, but it’s true! We want to help you find that confidence. If you're still not sure, shoot us a message. We love talking shop and helping you figure out if you need more weight to stop leaving them short or a specialized face to take some heat off.

Thank you guys for being part of this journey. We’re out here trying to make golf more accessible, one putter at a time. 🙏🏻
